meal replacements

Ive noticed recently a lot of 'meal replacement' shakes and bars readily available in supermarkets & chemists. In addition there are a lot of ads in mags advertising these meal replacements...does anyone know if they are effective?

Hi Deb
Apparently they are effective while you are taking them but i have heard so many people say once they stopped that all the weight came back fast. This is because you aren't learning to prepare healthy food for yourself and using a god exercise plan, which are really the only way to lose weight and keep it off.

Hi Deb,

I'm new to the site, But I couldn't help noticing your email. I have been trying to loose weight for years, with no avail. However about five weeks ago I went on a healthy diet of fruit and vegies, some meats and plenty of fish, (not only good for loosing weight, but good for the brain cells too). I never take those silly shakes and bars. I just changed the way I cooked food. When I made mash potato for the family. I mashed it all together, seperated my portion, put butter, milk and salt in their portion and left mine plain. When cooking pasta, I ate the sauce and all, but only half portions. The list is endless, you just have to use your imagination. My occupation consists of sitting (editing/proofreading) all the time, so I hop on the tredmill twice (if you don't have a tredmill, grab a Tshirt, jacket or umbrella) a day. Sometimes if my kids finish different times at school, I walk. (They complain a little, but they do it and they sleep better at night because of it.) I have now lost 7 kilos and 8cm of my hips. (In five weeks) I couldn't loose that much weight in a year. I am lighter, happier and healthier. Try it, it works.

regards
Mary
Smile the world is good to you and if it isn't, quit complaining and smile anyway.
