Gingernuts

Ingredients
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • ½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • pinch salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup castor sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon golden syrup
Instructions
  1. Sift flour, soda, cinnamon, salt and ginger into a bowl.
  2. Rub in butter until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  3. Mix in sugar.
  4. Beat egg with golden syrup. Add to dry ingredients
  5. Mix to a firm dough.
  6. Roll into balls approximately 2½ cm diameter.
  7. Place on greased trays. Allow room for spreading.
  8. Bake in a moderately slow oven for approximately 15 minutes, '
  9. Allow to cool on trays.
