Caramel Sauce

  • 125 grams butter
  • 2 tablespoons golden syrup
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1½ tablespoons cornflour
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup cream
  1. Combine butter and sugar in a saucepan.
  2. Stir over low heat until butter melts, sugar dissolves and mixture turns to thick syrup.
  3. Bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes.
  4. Combine water, golden syrup and cornflour. Mix until smooth.
  5. Add to brown sugar mixture and stir until smooth.
  6. Bring to the boil, reduce heal and simmer for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in cream.
  7. Serve warm or cold.
  8. Makes approximately 1½ cups
